HUADE INSIGHTS | Why Pigs from the Same Batch End Up Diverging in Growth?
Oct .10.2026
Pigs from the same pen, on the same feed and in the same environment, still show a few clear laggards at marketing. One week they have diarrhea, the next an infection, and no matter what intervention is applied, they stay half a step behind their pen-mates.
The first instinct of many producers is to check the feed, the environment, and the possibility of cross-infection. All of these are certainly worth investigating. But research in recent years points to an earlier explanation: this gap was very likely set in place in the days immediately before and after birth.
