Study on the Effect of TIPEK on Growth Performance and Intestinal Development of Bass

1. Objective of the Experiment

TIPEK has the effects of promoting the growth, proliferation, and differentiation of intestinal epithelial cells. It can enhance the absorption of ions and small molecules such as inorganic salts and amino acids by intestinal epithelial cells. Additionally, it can promote DNA synthesis, gene expression, and cell proliferation in intestinal epithelial cells, as well as facilitate the repair of intestinal villus damage. The purpose of this experiment is to add TIPEK to the diet of largemouth bass to verify its effects on promoting intestinal epithelial damage repair, growth and development, enhancing intestinal digestion and absorption capacity, comprehensively improving intestinal health, and improving the growth performance of largemouth bass.

2. Experimental Materials and Methods

2.1 Time and Location of the Experiment

Time: May 10, 2024 - June 9, 2024.

Location: A bass farm in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province.

2.3 Experimental Diet and Group Design

Bass with similar body weights and ages were selected and randomly divided into two groups: a control group (5 acres of water surface, 11,000 fish) and an experimental group (5 acres of water surface, 11,000 fish).

The control group and the experimental group had similar light conditions, water temperature, dissolved oxygen levels, feeding space, and density.

2.4 Feeding Management

Feeding was conducted according to the farm's routine management procedures.

2.5 Data Measurement

  • Body Weight: Approximately 30 Bass were randomly sampled and weighed each time.
  • Feed Intake: Daily feed intake was recorded.
  • Number of Dead Fish: The number of dead fish was observed and recorded daily during pond patrols.
  • Fish Body Length: The length from the top of the largemouth bass's head, along the body's long axis, to the end of the caudal fin was measured. The fish was placed on a flat measurement platform to ensure accuracy of the measurement.
  • Intestinal Length: The dissected intestine was laid flat on a test tray for measurement.

      From the data analysis, it can be seen that:

  1. The final average weight of the experimental group was 17.8g higher than that of the control group, representing an 11.2% increase;
  2. The experimental group outperformed the control group in both body length and intestinal length, with increases of 1.7cm and 3.2cm, respectively, corresponding to increases of 8.3% and 18.5%;
  3. The average pond feed intake of the experimental group was 3.6Kg higher than that of the control group, representing a 16.1% increase;
  4. The feed conversion ratio of the experimental group was 0.08 lower than that of the control group.

4. Experimental Conclusion

Adding TIPEK to the diet of largemouth bass can significantly increase fish body weight, enhance feed intake, and reduce the feed conversion ratio. Additionally, it has remarkable effects in promoting the growth of largemouth bass and intestinal development.

Commensal gut microbiota play a fundamental role in the development and regulation of host immunity in mammals. Disruption of the microbiota–immune balance leads to dysbiosis, which is closely associated with increased disease susceptibility. In contrast, the establishment of a stable and defined microbial community supports the maturation of immune functions. Among these, lactic acid bacteria have attracted significant attention due to their strain-specific ability to modulate immune responses and enhance host defense mechanisms.

Pigs are the only animal susceptible to human rotavirus (HRV)-induced diarrhea, making them an important model for studying host-microbe interactions. Studies in gnotobiotic pigs show that probiotic colonization with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Bifidobacterium animalis Bb12 enhances HRV-specific IgA responses and reduces diarrhea severity. Similarly, colonization with the simplified Bristol microbiota upregulates serum IgA and IgM levels, supporting intestinal and systemic immune development in newborn pigs. These findings highlight the potential of gut microbiota interventions to modulate immunity and improve pig health.

Antibiotics are widely used in pig production to prevent disease and promote growth. However, their use can disrupt the gut microbiota, reduce beneficial bacteria, and increase opportunistic pathogens. These changes may affect intestinal health, immune function, and the spread of antibiotic resistance genes.
